Argumentative research essay topic help. (3000words, Uni-leve)?

Hey,
so I have too write an argumentative research essay of 3000 words. Basically, I research both sides of the picture regarding a topic and present it as a 'research essay'.
Wanted to write on the evolution of the smartphone industry(from siemens to iphones over the years)but that doesnt satisfy the argumentative part of the essay.
So suggestions please, something that can be easily researched and has plenty available online.

current idea: US or Russia, whose foreign policy towards Syria is sustainable
(evaluation of both in length, that would form a comparison, and conclusionary statement of why they should cooperate,reflecting on why they havnt still and how can they get over those differences)
