Chances of getting caught after this happens?

okay so like about 2 weeks ago my friend got ****** up on Xanax (smh i know i don't wanna hear story's about how bad it is and all that i know!) so he ended up going to a jewelry store and ends up running off with a $1400 gold chain. He shortly after realized he left his iPhone sitting on the counter of the store, he then immediately signed out of his icloud and called his service to say the phone was lost/stolen and asked for them to turn the phone off. My question is what are the chances he will get caught its been two weeks and no warrants have popped up for him is he in the clear or is it still to early to tell or is he ******? Please explain an ask me any other info you would need to answer this for me? Thanks in advance
