My iTunes won't recognise my password?

I've had my iPhone for a year and I had an iPod touch for about two years; so I've ha my iTunes account for three years. But all of a sudden, it keeps saying my password is wrong so I can't update my apps or download new ones. I've changed it a few times but every time it keeps saying that my password is wrong, even when I copy it from the confirmation email.
Any ideas on how to solve this? If I got a new iTunes account, would that still let me keep my old apps?
